Heaton Mersey Community Association
 Charity No: 1071381

History

Heaton Mersey Community Association was set up by members of the local community in the early 1980s when St John's Church hall fell into a state of dilapidation and was facing closure. An initial grant was obtained from the Greater Manchester Council, which enabled emergency work to be done to eliminate dry rot and repair the roof supports. This was then followed by grants from other sources, including English Heritage via the National Lottery to replace windows and doors. The result is a clean, well maintained hall available for community use.

Today the Community Centre is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and any money raised through lettings is spent on maintaining the building and improving its facilities. Users of the hall are expected to play their part in its upkeep by respecting the building and leaving it clean and tidy.
